I cannot speak highly enough about Kellie’s commitment to her work, the range of educational services she provides, her incredible background and training, and the genuine care and appreciation she has for her students.  As her Making Math Real colleague, I see her devotion to teaching this amazing methodology, helping her students thrive and develop self confidence and trust in their abilities.

Our daughter didn’t start to talk until she was almost four. When she did start speaking, it was almost unintelligible. A few months later, she was starting to have meltdowns because we couldn’t understand her. We knew we needed help. A friend recommended “Lights On Learning.” We found out that, yes, she is willing to work via Zoom (it was during the pandemic), so we signed up. Within a few sessions, Ms. Kellie had our daughter making speech sounds that she had never been able to make before. My husband and I were so excited that we were cheering and praising our daughter so much that it startled her.

Now, several years later, we are still working with Ms. Kellie to continue to improve our daughter’s pronunciation. She has improved greatly, to the point that strangers are usually able to understand her. She still has a ways to go, but I think that we will eventually get there, since Ms. Kellie is really good at getting her to engage and try to enunciate the sound or word correctly.

I would highly recommend Kellie as a speech therapist. She is kind and encouraging, and is very effective at getting our daughter to continue to practice and improve her pronunciation.

Kellie Henkel has engaged in a rigorous study of English orthography with me for a number of years, including taking several of my classes more than once — and that’s on top of her SLP credentials and continuing education. She’s committed to enriching and deepening her own understanding of spoken and written language, and her dedication to her own learning speaks volumes about her dedication to her students.

Kellie is the best! My son started going to her for speech therapy 2 years ago. He was very minimal with his words and speech. At 3 years old he was saying about 20 words tops….he’s 5 years old now and he’s saying full on sentences! It’s amazing to see him learn new words or say a new phrase each day each time he goes with her. I recommend her services 100% if you’re looking for a speech therapist for your child.

Our son loves going and thanks to Kellie we found out he’s dyslexic. She is very knowledgeable and knows what she’s doing. We have seen improvement already and we have faith he will learn so much! He loves the treasure box after therapy
